Roller chain wear life bettered by a factor of 40
Tsubaki's continuing development of its market leading Lambda range of lube-free chains has resulted in a 'Third Generation' version which at low speeds has a wear life more than 40 times greater than that of standard roller chains. At normal speeds, wear life is 14 times greater, in both cases with greatly reduced elongation. Uniquely available in both Drive and Conveyor forms, Lambda III also has a wear life twice that of previous Lambda variants.
This level of performance has been achieved by evolutionary design in key areas of the chain.
The chain's specially sintered, oil impregnated bushings have been improved and the bushing-lubricant combination has been upgraded.
In addition, higher fatigue strength on the drive series chains has been achieved by shot-peening of parts.
Manufacturing the connecting links from specially selected steel-alloy and subjecting them to Tsubaki's unique ring coining process has reduced the already low risk of chain breakage even further.
Finally, Fe4O3 blackening of the outer and inner link plates has achieved better corrosion resistance.
In addition to specially sintered, oil impregnated bushings and coated pins, Third Generation Lambda is equipped with extra durable rollers that facilitate super smooth engagement on the sprocket for longer periods of time, resulting in reduced wear.
Moreover, the smooth articulation of chain and sprocket reduces power transmission losses by a high order.
Like all previous generations of Lambda, Lambda III is notable for its minimal elongation performance.
This reduces maintenance costs by obviating the need for frequent chain positioning and adjustments and also saves on component costs incurred by replacing chains - and sprockets - frequently.
Lambda III directly replaces standard ANSI and BS roller chains and other types of lube-free chain.
It is especially suitable for 'clean' operations where machines and conveyed materials must be free of lubricants, or where lubrication is difficult or impossible due to limited access.
Typical industries where these conditions predominate include food processing, printing, packaging and textiles.
Lambda's suitability for operation in these and other industries is enhanced by its wide operational temperature range -10degC to +150degC.
