Maintenance-free roller chains have long life
Maintenance-free Megalife roller chains have improved wear-resistance and durability, achieved through thermo-chemical treatment of its pins, guaranteeing a long lifespan.
Munich, Germany-based high-performance roller chain manufacturer IWIS Antriebssysteme (IWIS) introduces a new generation of its maintenance-free Megalife roller chains. The Megalife II chains have an exceptionally long service life. Their improved wear-resistance and durability is achieved through the thermo-chemical treatment of its pins, guaranteeing a long lifespan even at speeds above 3m/s.
A special surface treatment further enhances the rollers' abrasion resistance.
Due to its exceptionally long service life, the Megalife II series is the ideal choice for high-speed applications and other demanding applications.
Megalife II chains are available both as roller chains, conforming to the DIN 8187/ISO 606 standard for drive applications, and as conveyor chains with attachments.
Simplex and duplex versions with a pitch from 9.525 to 25.40mm are available.
Their plated components are corrosion-resistant and can be used in temperatures ranging from -40 deg C to +160 deg C.
Although they are easy to dismantle to simplify servicing, the chains never need to be re-lubricated.
This reduces maintenance costs and contributes to a clean environment.
Maintenance-free roller chains have made their mark in a range of applications and can be used wherever lubrication is difficult or impossible to implement.
This includes dry conditions, sterilized rooms, installations in areas with restricted maintenance access, and applications where plant and product contamination must be prevented.
Maintenance-free chains are used in the packaging industry, in printing and paper processing machines, food and beverages production, the timber, glass and ceramics industries, tube production, conveying systems, electronics and circuit-board manufacture, medical engineering and the production of special-purpose machines.
* About IWIS - IWIS Antriebssysteme (IWIS Chain) supplies high-performance roller chains and precision chain systems for machine and plant construction, packaging, printing and food industries, material handling systems and other industrial applications.
Since 2006, IWIS Antriebssysteme is an independent subsidiary of Joh Winklhofer and Soehne, which produces timing chains and systems for the automotive industry.
The company's history goes back to the end of the 19th century, when Johann Baptist Winklhofer started to import bicycles from England.
Having set up his own bicycle factory in Chemnitz, he later moved to Munich where he founded IWIS in 1916.
Still run as a family business - now in its fourth generation - IWIS today employs more than 800 people at its production sites in Munich, Strakonice in the Czech Republic, and the Bavarian town of Landsberg am Lech.
Last year, IWIS' Landsberg factory was awarded first place in the national German Factory of the Year 2005 competition.
IWIS chains are distributed worldwide.
In the UK, the products are available through IWIS Chain.
Established in 1974 and based in Bewdley, Worcestershire, IWIS Chain UK specializes in the distribution of roller chains and the production of attachment chains.
